For a century and a half, Decatur Public Library has stood as a cornerstone of our community, evolving from its humble beginnings in 1875 to the vibrant institution it is today. This presentation traces our remarkable journey through fifteen decades of service, innovation, and dedication to public access to knowledge.
Macon County Historian, Mark Sorensen will deliver a presentation exploring the milestones that have shaped our library's legacy: from the founders who envisioned a place where all citizens could access books and learning, through the expansion of our collections and facilities, to our transformation into a modern hub offering digital resources, community programming, and inclusive spaces for all.
Whether you're a lifelong patron or discovering our library's story for the first time, this presentation offers a meaningful look at how one institution has grown alongside our community, preserving the past while embracing the future.
Light refreshments will be served. All are welcome.
